EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) – For 10 years, Ryan Warner bided his time, waiting for the chance that has finally arrived. Warner was introduced as the new head coach at Chapin on Monday, his first head coaching job. It’s a dream come true for Warner, who gets to come home to his alma mater, after being a part of Chapin’s first graduating class. “It means everything to me. I was a part of the first graduating class at Chapin and a lot of my mentors were my football coaches so it means everything coming home and being able to work with the kids in the northeast,” Warner said. “It was one of the opportunities where you never know when it’s going to come but when it does it just feels right.”...

The Andress boys and girls basketball teams completed a clean sweep of rival Chapin in the Battle of the Northeast on Friday night. In the first game of the night, the Eagle boys scored the final 10 points of the game to beat the Huskies 59-53. Devonte Owens scored eight of the final 10 points for Andress. The Eagles grabbed sole possession of District 1-5A with the win. In the nightcap, things were much easier for the Andress girls, as the Eagles defeated Chapin 56-42. Andress jumped out to an early lead and cruised from their to the victory over the rival Huskies....

One of the top offensive players in the city made it official Wednesday, signing to play softball at UTEP. Morales has been on the varsity team since her freshman season and helped Chapin to an Elite Eight appearance and a round of 16 performance last season. Last season, she had 75 hits and 48 RBIs as a junior and hit .664 while also playing volleyball for the Huskies. Morales has been committed to UTEP since she was a sophomore and stuck with her decision after Tobin Echo-Hawk was fired as UTEP's head coach. UTEP named former Utah Valley head coach T.J. Hubbard as Echo-Hawks replacement....

Thanks to a huge third quarter, Chapin raced past Austin 56-32 on Tuesday night. Michael Herrera led the charge for the Huskies, who turned a single-digit game into a twenty-point laugher in a matter of minutes....

Rene Hernandez has coached his last football game at Chapin High School. Sources confirming to KTSM 9 Sports that Hernandez will step down effective December 20, 2019. Hernandez spent 20 years coaching at Chapin, 13 years as the head coach. He compiled a record of 99-51, just one win shy of 100 for his career. The Huskies made the playoffs in each of the 13 seasons he was at the helm. El Paso Independent School District will now begin their search to fill the position once it becomes officially vacant and posted to the district website....
